Vision Training

Often times people confuse the significance and meaning of eyesight and vision.
Eyesight simply means the ability to see small objects, such as letters, at a specific distance. This requires a certain amount of optical resolution and the average individual is said to have 20/20 eyesight. Eyesight of 20/20 means having the ability to see a letter of approximately one millimeter in height at 20 feet under low light condition.
On the other hand, vision implies the ability of our two eyes to work together in a clear, singular, efficient and comfortable manner. This is also called binocular vision. Our two eyes must work together at an optimum level or we will have difficulty reading, driving, and tracking balls in sporting activities. The six muscles attached to each of our eyes must work in tandem in a highly efficient manner or we will see double, have poor depth perception or headaches with everyday manual tasks. Also our focusing muscles within the eye must be finely tuned to meet the rigors of an educational, working, or sporting environment.

Vision training is a specialty in optometry that deals specifically with visual inefficiencies that can be remediated. Vision training is most successful when the individual becomes aware of their visual deficiencies then allows the therapy to enhance one’s skills in the optometric office environment, then eventually in the classroom, the workplace and in athletics. Vision training can enhance one’s eye movements, focusing, aiming, teaming, eye/hand coordination, visual perception and visual motor integration.
If you or a family member have one or more of the following signs of inefficient vision, please contact our office for more information and/or an appointment.
